Environment

Over 16 million people displaced in one country, millions displaced in another, due to deforestation on the banks of their rivers and almost all the lakes world over especially in developing world or in semitropical and tropical conditions and especially fragile ecosystem are gone. Europe suffered over 30 degree for weeks with erratic winter, Russia once know for its cold is burning with heat wave, almost millions of people are suffering world over. I dont know what is green house effect and how does it influence the global warming ( scientific debates on yes or no about this ) but…

Its pity that we destroy the forests on the banks of the rivers, remove trees on the hills, and allow silt to accumulate in the lakes. All this leads to destroying water bodies. It's fury of nature that kills people and makes them homeless world over. When people will learn to love plants and protect them if they want to protect their homes and environment. See below the lake manesar of Jaipur surrounding Jal Mahal which has been encroached upon to make tourist spot but filling of lake with sand has destroyed its structure choked water ways to lake and make it dry in times to come.…

The logic behind the worship of Goddess of wealth Laxmi in Indian mythology is simple. Lotus grows in water ponds. If you need to worship you need to bring lotus. Lotus is found in water bodies only. If you keep your water bodies of the village or town to get lotus to worship the water body shall provide you wealth and keep you rich.

The last 10 years or so I have been working on various aspects of the environment. Though my main perspective has been scientific, the political framework set the scene and define the premises for even scientific discussions, particularly when it comes to funding.
The UN provides the main global political frame. It sounds easy when I say it like that, but is is infinitely complicated. This little post has the ambition of giving both myself and readers of Science2.0 an overview of the conglomerate of UN bodies and projects that shape the discussions on the environment - also within science.…

A Kick In The Buttress
Buttressing
Imagine a retaining wall in sloping ground. Upslope there is soil. Downslope there is a piece of artificially created flat ground. The whole point of having the wall is to prevent landslip.
The soil on one side of the wall and the fresh air on the other create an imbalance of forces. One way to create a balance is to make the wall tapered, like a dam. A cheaper way is to make the wall straight and add occasional tapered thickenings. A well-designed buttress can save a lot of money on materials by adding strength sufficient…

Barchester Green Investment Limited (Barchester), which bills itself as the UK's leading ethical and environmental financial adviser, released their list of the current 'Heroes and Villains' amongst the ethical and environmental funds.
Jonathon Clark, Director of Barchester Green, explained, "Twenty years ago, Barchester used to publish a list for our clients of 'First, Second and Third Division' ethical and environmental funds. Now, owing to environmental disasters, and an increasing awareness of environmental and CSR issues, our clients are asking for these listings again…
Free Energy
I have written a great deal about global warming, climate change and have made several successful predictions - notably the recent calving of an ice island at the outlet of the Petermann Glacier's floating ice tongue. As the first person to publicly report that event and as the only person - to the best of my knowledge - to predict it's scale I feel entitled to be given due credit as a person who may know a thing or two about science.
It is exactly because this is a science site that I want you to agree not to believe a word I say based solely on my reputation.
Science…

A Climate Science Balancing Act
The 2009 State of the Climate report released by NOAA July 28 2010 -
draws on data for 10 key climate indicators that all point to the same finding: the scientific evidence that our world is warming is unmistakable. More than 300 scientists from 160 research groups in 48 countries contributed to the report, which confirms that the past decade was the warmest on record and that the Earth has been growing warmer over the last 50 years.
Based on comprehensive data from multiple sources, the report defines 10 measurable planet-wide features used to gauge global…

Peak Oil And Global Warming
"Our ignorance is not so vast as our failure to use what we know."
M._King_Hubbert
I am confident that, if he were still with us, M. King Hubbard would be strongly in favor of the pursuit of alternatives to fossil fuels. He demonstrated that our use of fossil fuels was not only unsustainable, but could lead to a reversion to an agrarian economy if we failed to address the problem of our dependence on fossil fuels.
Given his insightful writings on fossil fuels, population and energy I am confident that he would have accepted global warming as a fact and our…
