Distribution :- It is found throughout India.
Morphology :- A large unarmed, deciduous tree. Leaves bi-pinnate ; pinnae 2-4 pairs and leaflets 5-9 pairs. Flowers white and fragrants. Pods flat, straight, straw coloured, shiny and glabrous with 4-12 seeds (Bhandari, 1978).
Part Used :- Bark, Seeds, Flowers, Leaves and Root (Plate – 2 I & II).
Uses :- Bark and seeds are astringent, given in piles, diarrhoea, Dysentery and used for ophthalmia. Bark is applied to injuries to eyes. Oil extracted from them is used in leprosy. Flowers are used a cooling medicines, in boils, eruptions and swellings. Flowers are used as emollient and applied to carbuncles. Leaves are used in ophthalmia and used as a cure for syphills. Root bark is used to strengthen the gums when they are spongy and ulcerative. Whole Plant is considered a most potent alexipharmac and every part of it is used for treatment of bites and stings from venomous animals.
