Consultant Ashwani Kumar Objective To introduce the concept of planting Jatropha Curcas as fencing at small holders level and start up production of Jatropha oil and bio-fuel. Rationale The livelihood of the rural population of Rajasthan, counting approximately 75% of the total population of the state, is highly dependent on natural resources and climatic conditions. Environmental stresses of deforestation, droughts, and decreasing ground water and soil fertility force thousands of people from the poorest section of the rural community annually to migrate to the cities in search of jobs. At…

A New Class of Jet Fuel: bio-derived synthetic paraffinic kerosene (bio-SPK). Airlines are under serious pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so when the most prolific oil refinery technology provider on the planet teams up with the world’s biggest airplane manufacturer, they produce results—and a new class of fuel. The effort to “green up” aviation is being taken very seriously, and is well underway. More than a year and a half ago, a task force was put together to investigate alternative jet fuels. Its creation was initiated by the aviation industry to facilitate development of fuel…

Global warming and climate change issues need a global outlook Recently I attended a conference which was supposed to be court for the trying the cases of global warming and present the report for the Copenhagen meeting. Most of the farmers said they are not getting enough rain now, not enough produce is coming to their field, soil is getting degraded, excess water availability is causing salinity their cattlefolk is not giving same yields. Some pointed out that it’s the farmers and villagers themselves who have cut down the forests others said it’s the greed of the people to sell the wood…

From: Sreenivas Ghatty (gs@treeoilsindia.com) Sent: 23 November 2009 22:23PM To: Sreenivas Ghatty (gs@treeoilsindia.com) Biofuels have a limited role in India due to land limitation and food security issues, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said, a view which differs from the official line pushing for a 20 per cent blend of such fuel in gasoline and diesel by 2017. Pitching for hybrids and CNG-run vehicles, Ramesh said "biofuel does not has a relevance role in Indian context in view of land limitation and food security." He was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day 4th…

After years of stagnation in climate policy for transport, there have been a number of important developments over the last twelve months. Notably, policymakers have begun to get to grips with gas guzzling cars, through fuel efficiency standards agreed in Europe and the US. Thus, recognition has grown that if we are ever to tackle the climate crisis, we must tackle transport emissions. But the tide is far from being turned. In particular, international aviation and shipping accounting for nearly 10% of the climate problem have been left unchecked and are growing faster than all other…

Short of a global economic collapse or the construction of a new nuclear power plant everyday, stabilizing or reducing greenhouse gas emissions is impossible, says University of Utah atmospheric scientist Tim Garrett. In his new Climatic Change study – which is based on the concept that physics can be used to characterize the evolution of civilization – Garrett argues that energy conservation or efficiency doesn't really save energy, but instead spurs economic growth and accelerates energy consumption. Additionally, the paper claims that "[s]tabilization of carbon dioxide emissions at…
