There are far too many theories about the best way to teach kids.
Dr. Seuss had the right idea: make it fun. It's good to have a child actually beg you to read something out loud.
Never mind the Saggerbotham theory of linguistic competence or the Higginsmythe phoneme-clustering prolexial algorithm. These are kids, for crying out loud! Let them have fun!
When learning is so much fun, why would any kid want you to stop just so you can teach them useful words like onomatopoeia?
With those thoughts in mind, here is another of my verses for children. I hope that it may help to instil a love of words in many children. And if any of you adults enjoy it - I'm cool with that.

A Day On The Farm
As the sky turns grey
at the start of the day
all the leaves go 'flutter'
as they have their say
and the birds in their nests
yawn and puff out their chests -
Cockaroo! says the cockerel
Cockaroo! Neigh!
Neigh! goes the horse - Moo!
Moo! goes the cow - Baa!
Baa! goes the sheep - Woof!
Woof! goes the dog - Miaow!
Miaow! goes the cat - Quack!
Quack! goes the duck - Cluck!
Cluck! goes the chicken - Neigh!
Neigh! goes the horse - Baa!
Baa! goes the sheep - Moo!
Moo! goes the cow - Woof!
Woof! goes the dog - Cluck!
Cluck! goes the chicken - Quack!
Quack! goes the duck - Miaow!
Miaow! goes the cat - Woof!
Woof! goes the dog - Miaow!
Miaow! goes the cat - Woof!
Woof! goes the dog - Psssss!
Yelp! goes the dog - Miaow!
Miaow! goes the cat - Woof!
Woof! goes the dog - Cluck!
Cluck! goes the chicken - Neigh!

and the last bit of red
fades away from the sky
and it's time for bed.
