10. The Red Planet 2000
The loving robotic helper turn evil really sparked my attention to this film.

9.  Mission to Mars 2000
As the first manned mission to Mars arrives, they set of to explore the surface. Not soon after does a strange noise and unique formation of rocks lead them to investigate. An unpredicted storm injures the team, leaving only one to survive, the captain. The team at the space station struggles to find a way to save their captain from the martian surface without risking more lives in the process. Upon landing, they ultimately discover the origin of life in the universe.

True this movie did not have spectacular effects or a groundbreaking lesson intertwined with the characters, but it makes my list even so.

8. Alien 1979

7. The Day After Tomorrow 2004

6. Butterfly Effect 2004

5. Mars Attacks 1996

4. Armageddon 1998

3. Gattaca 1997

2. Jurassic Park 1993
We all know Jurassic Park and it's frightening sequences, full of ravishing dinosaurs and scientists crazy enough to try and take them out of extinction.

1. Sphere 1998

When a mysterious object is found on the ocean floor, a group of specialized scientists are sent to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean to try and analyze what the government is calling an 'Alien spaceship'. The team consisted of a mathematician, psychologist, physicist, and a biochemist. As they begin investigating the vessel, mysterious occurrences rattle their expedition. These strange and horrific events lead them to doubt each others sanity and motives.

Although I enjoyed Michael Crichton's novel version incomparably more, the basis of the film still proves to be one of my tops throughout the years. The play with fear and conceptions of human persona entice an emotional reaction that you would not expect from a film.
