Distribution Area : Temperate Himalaya, Bhutan, Sikkim, alt. 1,200-3,500m. In Bhutan found in Ha, Paro, Thimphu, Bumthang,Gasa and Mongar districts.
Description : An upright shrub 3-5m, with dark red or purple stems with few prickles and with large, often solitary bright pink flower, 3-7 cm across. Petals 5, broadly obcordate; sepals long - pointed often with leafy tip, nearly as long as petals or longer, usually with glandular bristles. Leaves 8-20 cm, with 7-11 ovate elliptic, finely toothed leaflets upto 5cm or more, hairy and glandular beneath. Fruit very large upto 5 cm, red, flask shaped, with conspicuous persistent calyx, edible. (Plate 4.14)
Part use : Fruit
Medicinal use : Fruits are used for treating constipation.
Other common uses : Fruits used as herbal tea.
Remarks : Fruit is rich in vitamin C.

2. Rosa sericea Lindley.
Family : Rosaceae
Bhutanese medicinal name : Se-wai-me-tog.
Distribution area : Bhutan to S.W. China, Burma, Altitude. 2,100-4,500m, forests, shrubberies, cultivated areas, alpine slopes. May-Aug.
Description : A stiff erect shrub with usually hairless often unarmed twigs, with leaves which have small leaflets and with solitary white or cream, axillary, somewhat drooping flowers, 4-6 cm across with 4 petals. Petals obcordate; sepals 4, elliptic with a long apex, shorter than the petals, persisting in fruit; leaflets 5-11, elltiptic to narrow oblong, toothed at apex, terminal leaflet slightly larger 8.25 mm. Fruit bright red, globular to pear shaped, 1-1.5cm, calyx erect.

Medicinal use : Treats bile and wind disorders.
Remarks : Fruits are edible.
