An increasing population explosion and rapid industrialization is causing rapid destruction of forests. Nature crude is resulting in green house gas emissions causing population problems.
Renewable energy sources provide answer to both of these problems by way of providing clean fuel on renewable basis utilizing the solar energy.
However, there is always a competition between food vs fuel use of oils and any major thrust on biofuel production must take in to account that edible oils are not diverted to the production of biofuels.
Barring exceptions of Europe and North America where enough land and resources could be diverted for biofuel production detailed investigations on the type of planting material, its natural occurrence, methods of its mass scale cultivation, agro-technology and harvesting and processing techniques.
During last 28 years of researches carried out at the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur and presented at the International coferences a three tier system of biofuel production has been developed with support from MNES, DST, DBT Govt of India to utilize wastelands for production of biofuel particularly non edible oil yielding plants like Jatropha curcas for biodiesel production at the experimental energy plantation demonstration EPDPC at University of Rajasthan .
Agrotechnology has been developed for mass propagation of elite plants. Details shall be presented.
