Green Pastures And Still Waters

The most fascinating episode in my entire life was the day I witnessed ice growing from needle-like frazil through all phases into white ice.  There had been no snow, and I had seen no ice elsewhere that day.

The location was a canal in the English countryside.  There was a classic stone arch bridge, a gentle cold breeze and a venturi effect.

The expanding winter air caused only about six or seven feet to freeze on an otherwise ice-free canal.  Adjacent to the bridge under which the breeze was funneling was a classic ice arch spanning the canal.  Upstream the water was rippling gently.  The ripples were damped first by the frazil and then the grease ice.  Under the bridge the water was mirror smooth despite the breeze.

Green pastures, still waters and ice.  What can beat that?

As is so often the case with such events, I had no camera with me.

Peoples of all cultures love green places and still waters.  They also love music and song, as I noted in Music - The International Language.

Maybe, somewhere 'out there', aliens are even now sitting beside still waters and green pastures.  If they are playing music then beyond doubt they are at least as intelligent as humans.  They may even have their own religion, their own Psalm 23.
