Apologists for Bishop blame job insecurity, since Bishop shot the place up after not getting tenure.  If only we could all have murder rationalized by not getting a promotion, though it seems more likely the quiet talk about her was her mental instability as a reason to deny her tenure, because after getting tenure it would be too late.
