Here is an article relating to a discussion about the qualifications of mental health professionals in assessing the long-term effects of torture.

There is extensive research, they argue, that torture causes long-term
mental health problems. However, "we do not yet have the scientific
knowledge to predict with any precision what the psychological outcome
will be for an individual."

I'm not sure why anyone is having this discussion amongst countries that so loudly proclaim that they do not endorse nor participate in torture.  The simple reality is that this is not only stupid, but for any professional to contemplate participating, it is a travesty to any ethics that might exist.

Just considering the quote shown above, one has to wonder just how perverted someone's thinking process must be, to act as if the problem is that "we do not yet have the scientific knowledge to predict....".

What is there to predict?  Are we to pursue rationalizations for science like Josef Mengele?

To increase the absurdity, there is another article entitled "You can't trust a tortured brain: Coercive interrogation may do more harm than good".  Personally I'm stunned that someone could write such a title with a straight face.  Then of course there's the absurdly obvious "Psychologists say torture can make anyone seem guilty".

.... and the hits just keep on coming.
