Being organic is not the hardest thing in the world; fill out some paperwork, pay a fee and assure the world you only use toxic organic pesticides rather than toxic synthetic ones.

Thanks to having their own special niche under the USDA, with standards created by a panel of organic insiders, even dozens of synthetic ingredients are allowed.

And there are no inspections, other than the ones that the farms hire to certify themselves, and if a watchdog group provides evidence that organic cows and chickens are not allowed out to roam, part of the rather lenient organic requirement, the special part of the USDA controlled by organic lobbyists will let the organic farm violating the rules simply say they follow the rules, just during any of the times they were being photographed, and it will be dismissed.

USDA declines to investigate alleged violations at major organic farms by Peter Whoriskey, Washington Post
