Every government has UFO files. That doesn't mean they have aliens hidden in secret, underground lairs or futuristic spaceships being studied, but they have various claims of UFOs by citizens.
UFO technically still means just unidentified - the kookier sorts infer that always to mean alien flying saucers.
The files are from 1954 to 2009 and were released today under freedom of information laws - the New Zealand Defence Force removed names and other identifying material from them. It is about 2000 pages of documents in which members of the public, military personnel and commercial pilots outline close encounters, mostly involving moving lights in the sky. Some include drawings of flying saucers, descriptions of aliens and alleged examples of extraterrestrial writing.
