I thought it was a joke when Alex Berezow of Real Clear Science sent this to me. You know, someone sets up a spoof site for laughs because the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks naturally lends itself to humor.
Even the .ico file for the subdomain is a big ol' heart - and it is a subdomain so it must be real.
New Scientist, famous for articles proclaiming 'Darwin was wrong' - maybe the only science article Texas Gov. Rick Perry ever read - and hiring a neuroscience company to design a cover to dupe you into buying their magazine and bragging about having secret access to the CMS experiment at the LHC (not to mention highlighting a researcher who claims the Internet causes Autism) has ventured into new ground once again, this time uncovering the mysteries of...dating.
Yes, New Scientist has started a dating service for all you lonely young scientists - because in a time of budget concerns and encroachment on the ethics and integrity of science by people on both the left and the right, what scientists really need is to be told how to get a date.
We're bold, so why didn't Science 2.0 think of this first, you wonder? Well, we did, but we had planned it for our next April Fools issue, along with changing the site name to Seance 2.0.
We wish them the best of luck in their new venture. Since science hasn't worked out all that well for them, perhaps this is a better fit for the company.
