If you paid attention to video that appears to show a missile launch off the coast of California, you can imagine what conspiratorial types are making of the military's silence.
The silence is because from plenty of angles it looks like an airplane contrail.
ContrailScience.com says confusing jet trails with missile launches is due to several common factors, like the angle of launch, the direction of the flight. Even the horizon can lend to the illusion - certain images of jet launches do look like missiles but with no rocket flare and moving incredibly slow, it isn't a missile.
