It may be poignant that the "Hamburglar", one of the many characters McDonald's created in the early 1970s to rip off the "H.R. Pufnstuf" children's television show (fear not, McDonald's was sued and lost) is used in Reuters / Fox News headlines about hackers who hack filched data from the McDonald's servers in classic “Robble robble” fashion.
Why did McDonald's have a thief character and get away with it anyway? Because when I was a kid adults did not think kids were total idiots like the politically correct types think kids are today. A weird guy in a costume stealing hamburgers was clearly the bad guy and parents didn't believe the Hamburglar was a gateway icon to actually stealing hamburgers and speaking nonsense.
Or was he??
Someone stole emails addresses and birthdates (no credit card or social security info) from McDonald's servers and since some adults today think kids are so dumb that if they even see a fast food commercial they will become obese, they must believe it is a 40-something who was mentally damaged by the Hamburglar way back then.
Actually, I think the French Fry Gobblins were a much worse example - they're French! - and we know "H.R. Pufnstuf" was only watched then by stoners and that is still true today so the DVDs should be banned.
