California activists are cheering a new report that claims for 100 days, the state was entirely powered by alternative energy and therefore solar and wind are ready to rule.
This is a puzzle when California has America's most expensive electricity costs and people statewide are claiming about a 100% increase in electricity costs over the last 8 years and $500 bills last month.
The details tell the three truths that paid activists for the solar and wind industry omit.
Like with medicine and food, alternative energy is for wealthy elites. It is a feel-good fallacy and hopelessly unprepared, unlike the nuclear energy that anti-science activists oppose is.
1. In the spring very little electricity is needed, and that when the bulk of the 100 days occurred.
2. When solar is available is when people need it least - during the day, when they are at work anyway.
3. The 100 days included when solar and wind were only producing energy equal to what was in use for only one minute during that time.
4. All those net-metering and installation subsidies for wealthy people have results in the country's highest energy costs. Electricity costs have nearly doubled while the current Governor has been eating in Napa restaurants and disappearing on mystery trips.
5. In the winter, natural gas is used far more than electricity, 60 percent of homes, while in the summer air conditioners are 100 percent of users. The summer is when electricity generation matters. Utilities are government-controlled, they can't charge more when they need to buy it on the spot market - and they do, or the state suffers brownouts.
